Our farm is located in an area that is known as the “Cherokee
Old Fields”, and has been cultivated for as long as the
Cherokee have been growing corn. Our family lived on the farm
and used it for subsistence as well as the commercial production
of livestock and tobacco. Over the years we have moved away
from livestock and tobacco and into vegetables and strawberries.
In 1986 we added hydroponic greenhouses and since that time
have been growing bibb lettuce throughout the year. We market
field grown tomatoes, bell pepper, crookneck squash, half-runner
beans, and strawberries. Up until now our focus has been on
wholesale commercial markets, but we feel like the time for
change has come once again.
Because of our close ties with the land and our community,
we realize the need to connect local people with local food.
We plan to achieve this by adding a great deal more diversity
to our products and offering those to the community through
CSA.

CSA stands for Community Supported
Agriculture, and represents a partnership
between the farmer and consumer. A CSA share is an annual
agreement whereby members can support their local farmer by
purchasing “shares” of the coming season’s
harvest. The member gets fresh, local food that is a good
value compared to regular market prices and as your farmers
we agree to do everything we can to supply members with a
season’s worth of the best food possible. Although we
are not “organic” growers, we do our best to use
sustainable growing practices to provide customers with the
freshest local, seasonal produce available.
We have been farming long enough to realize that the health
of our land is vital to our health as people. Our attitude
has never been that this land “belongs” to us,
but that we belong to this land.
The rewards of CSA are great. When you buy food from us,
you know where it’s grown, who grows it and how it is
handled. You can feel good knowing that your CSA purchase
strengthens the voice of the people who advocate for a local
food system.

When a share is purchased, the member accepts
a risk of crop failure. Natural occurrences such as hail, floods
and drought can have a great impact on the availability of all
the crops as a whole. This is ultimately the risk you agree
to take with us as a CSA member of a family farm. |

The 2010 CSA season is about 22 to 24 weeks.
The share price is $500 dollars. Your investment helps to
pay for seed, soil amendments, tools, and labor for the farming
season. You have the option of paying the entire amount up
front, or sending a $250.00 down payment with the balance
due August 1st.
We offer one size share we call a full share. A full share
can feed a family of four, depending on your eating habits.
If this feels like too much food for your particular circumstance
you are welcome to split your share with friends. As we only
sell full shares, it would be your responsibility to make
arrangements and collect their half of the money to mail in
with your application.
We do not pack boxes to individual specifications. We will
offer the same contents in all the boxes. Feel free to let
us know what you are enjoying the most and we will consider
your ideas in the plantings next year. |
