| Hydroponics (from the Greek
words hydro water and pono
labor) is a method of growing plants using
mineral nutrient solutions, without soil.
|
|
Shelton Family Farm has a year-round hydroponic greenhouse
operation exclusively for the production of hydroponic
bibb lettuce. We produce 10 to 12,000 heads of lettuce
a week.
Our hydroponic lettuce fills about half an acre of greenhouse
space, a glorious carpet of green even in the depths of
January. The plants grow in a nutrient-rich water that
closely mimics the healthiest soil possible. |
|
|
|
We are now in the process of diversifying the lettuces we
grow in this system and plan to offer these as part of the
share! This will add a very unique and healthy aspect. Our
hydroponic lettuces are both nutrient rich and PESTICIDE FREE.
